Lin Jarvis has decided that it is time for him to move on. He will be leaving the team at the end of the season, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
“This will be my last season at Yamaha, I will quit at the end of the year. I will decide later what I’m going to do, what I will dedicate my time to.” Jarvis said.
For the past 26 years, Jarvis has been leading the way at Yamaha Motor Racing, the brand’s racing department. He has been instrumental in the resurgence of the manufacturer since the mid-2000s.
Working alongside Davide Brivio, Jarvis was able to persuade Valentino Rossi to join the project in 2004. At that time, Rossi was the top player in the championship and the star of Honda.
Back in the early 2000s, Yamaha was on fire in the MotoGP world. With Rossi leading the pack and Jarvis calling the shots, Yamaha clinched the championship titles in 2004, 2005, 2008, and 2009. It was a golden era for the team.
As Rossi’s time with Yamaha came to an end, a new star emerged – Jorge Lorenzo. He took over the reins and went on to win the championship in 2010, 2012, and 2015. Yamaha was still at the top of their game.
However, the rise of Marc Marquez with Honda posed a challenge to Yamaha’s dominance. Marquez won an impressive six titles out of seven between 2013 and 2019, leaving Yamaha in his dust.
But in 2021, Fabio Quartararo brought the championship back to Yamaha. Under Jarvis’s leadership, Yamaha has now won a total of eight rider titles in MotoGP.
It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the team, but they’ve shown that they’re still a force to be reckoned with in the world of motorcycle racing.
Both Jarvis and Yamaha have decided that now is the perfect time for this transition. They believe it will help the company move forward and reach new levels of success.
“We have already identified the candidate who will most likely become my successor, although it has not yet been made official.” Jarvis said.
“But it will be a man from the Yamaha group, who will take over my position in January next year.” he added.
