Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville said that Liverpool was only a shadow of themselves after watching Jurgen Klopp’s side lose 3-2 to Arsenal in the 10th round of the Premier League.
“We knew that Jurgen Klopp came to this country with heavy metal football being the actual premise and principle, but that was not heavy metal football against Arsenal, that was like bass guitar.” Neville said.
“Look, they have got enough credit in the bank this Liverpool team and this Liverpool manager. And this Liverpool manager has done the best job of any manager in the last six, seven years, with what he has had to work with in terms of budget compared to the rest.” Neville added.
Liverpool on Sunday lost their place as a guest at the Emirates Stadium when Gabriel Martinelli scored in the first minute. They equalised thanks to a Darwin Nunez flash, but Arsenal took the lead before halftime thanks to Bukayo Saka.
The Reds equalised for the second time thanks to a substitute for Roberto Firmino. But they suffered a penalty and Saka scored to help Arsenal win three points to seize the top of the Premier League table. The defeat dropped Liverpool to 10th place, 14 points behind Arsenal.
“In the first half, I thought they responded really well to an electric start. But I thought that second half was worrying for Liverpool. They looked like a shadow of themselves.” Neville said.
“Generally, their performance in the second half will be a worry for Jurgen Klopp, not just the performance on the ball and how they played, but also off the ball, their ability to be able to get to the ball, and press, and harass.” he added.
Liverpool fans are concerned about their team current situation because they will play Manchester City this weekend.
