Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has spoken about a possible return to his club Benfica.
In an interview with the newspaper “Record”, the Portuguese recalled the years spent in the formation of Benfica, admitting that he did not expect to reach such a high level.
“My dream wasn’t to play for the best club in the world, it was to play for Benfica. I didn’t know what level I was going to reach.” Silva said.
“I started when I was seven years old and I always played, from 12 to 17 I played very little. You don’t give up, but you think, if. Maybe it won’t be enough. Other moments when it gets better again and you believe again.”
“When you’re 13, 14, 15 years old you never know what level you’re going to reach and having reached this level is a source of pride for me because I’m at one of the best clubs in the world. I managed to reach the top.” Silva added.
Silfa, meanwhile, he addressed the possibilities of City and Benfica in the Champions League.
Silva believed that, from the round of 16, anything can happen despite highlighting the inequality in terms of financial power.
“Benfica has its aspirations, but realistically, it’s not easy for a Portuguese club to compete with clubs that spend 100 million on transfers.” Silva said.
“But Benfica is there and, from the round of 16 and quarter, anything can happen and it’s legitimate all teams believe that it is possible.”
“As we saw in the World Cup with Morocco and Croatia. When it is a knockout game, anything can happen and it is legitimate for these teams to believe that they can go far.” he added.
Silva does not close the door to another possible sporting project that arises at the end of the season despite his desire to return to Benfica.
“I won’t hide that my goal in recent years, if something good happens elsewhere, will probably be to switch to a new project.” Silva added.
“Going to a new project at the age of 29, I’ll probably end this contract at 34 ask what I thought 10 years ago, my goal was to return to Benfica at the age of 32. What do I think today? It depends on what happens next summer.” Silva added.
