Dele Alli left Everton after just seven months, joining Besiktas on loan for the rest of the season. The Turkish side will have two opportunities to make the loan deal permanent.
Alli will otherwise return to Everton, where he would have one year on his contract.
The former England international made just 13 appearances after his transfer from Tottenham in January, starting just one game and not scoring a goal.
And Everton manager Frank Lampard was willing to let him go, even at a time when he is running low on attacking options and with Anthony Gordon a target for Chelsea.
Alli played an influential role in the May win over Crystal Palace that kept Everton, but Lampard chose not to pick him for the season opener against Chelsea, even with Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured and Salomon Rondon suspended.
Everton were due to pay Tottenham £10m when he made his 20th appearance for the Merseyside club as part of his transfer terms.
“Dele has completed his loan move to Turkish side Besiktas for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.” Everton said in a statement.
“The 26-year-old midfielder moves to Istanbul after joining the Blues from Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the 2022 January transfer window.” Everton added.
However, Everton has not confirmed whether the deal includes an option to permanent buying.
Everton signed Alli as they battled relegation last winter, hoping he could rediscover the form that made him one of England’s brightest prospects in his early career.
The 26-year-old midfielder had fallen through the ranks at Spurs and given up on settling scores for the national team.
Alli has made 11 appearances as the Toffees avoided the fall but failed to score. He has appeared twice as a substitute this season.
